PM Shehbaz on Floods

Islamabad, March 31, 2026 – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to take strict action against petroleum smuggling and illegal hoarding, emphasizing the need to ensure market stability and protect consumers amid ongoing economic challenges.

The directive came during a high-level meeting chaired by the prime minister to review the petroleum products supply chain and assess the implementation of austerity and energy conservation measures in light of the evolving regional situation. The meeting focused on ensuring uninterrupted fuel availability and exploring additional relief measures for the public, particularly low-income segments.

According to an official statement, the prime minister instructed relevant ministries to finalize recommendations in consultation with provincial governments. These proposals aim to strengthen supply management mechanisms and maintain relief for citizens despite global economic uncertainties and fluctuating oil markets.

Highlighting the importance of strict enforcement, PM Shehbaz ordered a nationwide crackdown on elements involved in petroleum smuggling and hoarding. He stressed that such illegal activities disrupt supply chains, inflate prices, and place an undue burden on consumers.

The prime minister noted that the government has already taken significant steps over the past three weeks to support vulnerable groups. Through cuts in the development budget and implementation of austerity measures, the government has provided relief amounting to Rs129 billion by preventing an increase in petroleum prices.

“Our foremost priority is to provide relief to the people,” he reiterated, adding that timely policy decisions have ensured adequate fuel supplies across the country.

During the briefing, officials informed the meeting that demand and supply of petroleum products are being closely monitored through a digital dashboard. This system enables real-time tracking to ensure transparency and uninterrupted availability nationwide.

The meeting was attended by key federal ministers, including Ahad Cheema, Attaullah Tarar, Ali Pervaiz Malik, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, and Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, along with senior government officials.
