Islamabad, March 17, 2026 – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed authorities to further strengthen Pakistan’s petroleum import supply chain, emphasizing preparedness amid evolving regional and global conditions.
Chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad, the prime minister reviewed the implementation of fuel conservation and austerity measures and was informed that adequate petroleum stocks are currently available to meet domestic demand. Officials assured that all directives issued earlier are being effectively implemented.
Focus on Supply Stability and Monitoring
The prime minister instructed the Minister for Petroleum to intensify efforts to ensure uninterrupted fuel supplies across the country. He stressed that all relevant institutions must remain fully prepared for emergency measures until the situation stabilizes.
The meeting was also informed that the Intelligence Bureau will provide regular monitoring reports on the implementation of conservation and supply measures. Authorities are maintaining strict oversight of petroleum stock levels to quickly detect and address any irregularities.
Austerity Measures Showing Results
Participants highlighted that cabinet members have voluntarily foregone their salaries, while reduced fuel consumption in government departments is already yielding positive results. These steps are expected to help ease financial pressure and provide relief to the public.
Digital Shift and Essential Supplies
Officials further briefed the meeting that the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has introduced special connectivity arrangements to support work-from-home and e-office systems, ensuring uninterrupted government operations.
Additionally, the government confirmed that sufficient stocks of medicines are available nationwide.
The meeting was attended by key cabinet members, including Ishaq Dar and Muhammad Aurangzeb, along with senior officials, reflecting the government’s coordinated approach to managing supply chain and economic challenges.
