More than 15.5 million citizens have registered for the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Programme, with Rs28.6 billion disbursed by November 4, 2026.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to cancel the licences of petrol pumps that refuse to provide subsidised fuel to eligible consumers registered under the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Programme. The move aims to ensure that beneficiaries receive the financial assistance promised under the government’s initiative.

The prime minister issued these instructions while chairing a high-level meeting on Thursday to review the programme’s implementation, registration figures and subsidy distribution mechanism.

During the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far, particularly regarding transparency and the simplified registration process. He noted that improvements in registration and subsidy distribution had encouraged more people to join the initiative, allowing a greater number of deserving citizens to benefit.

He also described the technology-driven subsidy programme as a potentially transformative model for future government welfare initiatives, highlighting the importance of effective monitoring and transparent delivery systems.

Officials informed the meeting that 15,519,282 citizens had registered under the scheme. The registered beneficiaries include approximately 15.06 million motorcycle owners and 449,000 owners of vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc.

The programme has also generated substantial activity in subsidy distribution. According to the briefing, authorities have issued 63,153,685 subsidy tokens, of which 59,445,347 have already been redeemed.

The total financial assistance distributed under the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Programme reached Rs28.6 billion as of November 4, 2026, reflecting the scale of the government’s subsidy initiative.

The prime minister appreciated Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima, Federal Secretary Zarrar Hashim Khan and their respective teams for establishing a monitoring system and digital dashboard to improve transparency and track programme activities.

To address complaints and provide assistance, dedicated call centres have also been established for consumers and petrol pump operators.

Shehbaz Sharif stressed that no registered beneficiary should be deprived of the subsidised fuel facility. He instructed the relevant authorities to take strict action against petrol pumps violating programme requirements, including cancellation of their operating licences.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, several federal ministers, senior government officials and advisers responsible for finance, energy and other relevant departments.
