Islamabad, August 16, 2025 – Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has instructed all relevant authorities to ensure a swift and coordinated response to the recent floods that have struck various parts of the country.

Chairing a high-level briefing, the Prime Minister was informed by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik about the extensive damage caused by cloudbursts and flash floods in the northern and upper regions.

The NDMA chief detailed ongoing rescue and relief efforts, explaining that teams were working closely with provincial and local agencies. Shehbaz directed NDMA to maintain close cooperation with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and its Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), stressing that “every available resource must be deployed” to assist the victims.

He instructed that essential relief supplies — including tents, medicines, and food items — be dispatched to the affected districts without delay, with priority transport arranged through dedicated truck convoys. Emphasizing the urgency, the Prime Minister ordered immediate evacuation of people and tourists stranded in floods-hit zones to safe shelters.

During the meeting, Shehbaz reviewed progress reports on rescue missions, as well as preliminary assessments of damage to infrastructure, homes, and livelihoods. He also spoke directly with Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi and Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, assuring them that the federal government would extend complete support in combating the floods emergency.

“The federal government stands with the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in this hour of trial,” Shehbaz stated, confirming that relief consignments of tents, medicines, and food were already en route. He added that the government’s sympathies and full backing were with all victims as authorities work round the clock to restore normalcy in the affected areas.
