Islamabad, March 16, 2026 – Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday affirmed that the government of Pakistan is fully prepared to handle any situation arising from ongoing global tensions, emphasizing that economic stability and public relief remain top priorities.
During a high-level review meeting, the prime minister outlined measures for austerity, conservation, and management of petroleum reserves amid emerging regional uncertainties. He instructed petroleum distribution companies to maintain sale of fuel at government-determined prices and ensure full transparency in operations, according to a press release from the PM Office Media Wing.
The meeting was attended by key cabinet members, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Minister for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja, and Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, along with senior officials.
PM Shehbaz highlighted that consultations are ongoing to introduce additional relief measures for the public. He noted that due to timely government decisions, Pakistan currently has an adequate supply of petroleum products, and the committee’s proactive measures have ensured uninterrupted fuel availability across the country.
The prime minister also emphasized national austerity measures already in place, with further initiatives under review. A third-party audit has been ordered to monitor compliance with all directives and ensure effective implementation.
Officials were briefed on existing oil reserves, petroleum imports, and strategies to provide public relief. To enhance transparency, the Pak App now allows consumers to report fuel unavailability or overpricing, triggering immediate government action.
Participants praised the prime minister’s decision last Friday not to increase petroleum prices further, reflecting a commitment to public welfare and economic stability amid global uncertainty.
This proactive approach underscores Pakistan’s readiness to mitigate external shocks while safeguarding economic growth and citizens’ access to essential energy supplies.
