Islamabad, December 9, 2025 – Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday emphasized Pakistan’s renewed commitment to eliminate corruption, marking the International Anti-Corruption Day with a strong message on transparency, accountability, and youth involvement.
In his statement, the Prime Minister highlighted that this year’s theme, “Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity,” underscores the importance of engaging young people in preventing corruption and fostering a culture of honesty and accountability.
Government Measures Against Corruption
PM Shehbaz Sharif said that tackling financial corruption remained a top priority for the government. Institutions such as the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and other relevant authorities are actively working to ensure accountability at all administrative, financial, and institutional levels.
“Our youth are the most precious asset and the guarantee for a peaceful, prosperous, and developed future,” the Prime Minister said, urging the younger generation to play an active role in combating corruption.
He warned that financial corruption not only undermines national development, social cohesion, and the economy but also erodes public trust in governance. “International Anti-Corruption Day provides an opportunity for people worldwide to reaffirm their commitment to creating a corruption-free society,” he added.
NAB’s Role and Global Cooperation
The Prime Minister commended NAB’s ongoing legal actions against financial crimes, its efforts to safeguard national resources, and initiatives to raise awareness among youth. He also highlighted the timely resolution of grievances for citizens affected by organized financial crimes as a key factor in strengthening public trust.
On the international front, Pakistan is actively cooperating under the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) and has signed several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) for mutual legal assistance to combat corruption globally.
Call for Unity and Transparent Governance
PM Shehbaz Sharif urged all segments of society, including federal and provincial governments and community leaders, to unite in the fight against corruption. “Together, with shared purpose and unity, we will continue the struggle against corruption more effectively, completing the dream of a transparent, just, and prosperous Pakistan,” he affirmed.
