PM Shehbaz reiterates commitment to low-cost housing projects

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to expanding housing opportunities for low- and middle-income citizens, stating that affordable housing remains a top national priority.

He made these remarks while chairing a high-level review meeting of the Task Force on Housing Sector Development, focused specifically on advancing low-cost housing projects across the country.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized that low-cost housing schemes would not only provide dignified residential options to ordinary citizens but also significantly contribute to economic growth and job creation. “The housing sector is deeply linked to the overall progress of the construction industry and plays a vital role in achieving sustainable economic development,” he noted.

He directed the task force to collaborate closely with the Ministry of Finance and banking institutions to swiftly formulate a set of practical recommendations for financing affordable housing schemes. These recommendations, he said, should be incorporated into the upcoming federal budget to ensure timely implementation.

The Prime Minister stressed that boosting the housing sector would have a multiplier effect on various industries, encouraging domestic investment and accelerating infrastructure development. Shehbaz Sharif underlined the need for clear, actionable strategies to facilitate home ownership, especially for the underprivileged segments of society.

The meeting was attended by key federal ministers including Ahsan Iqbal, Riaz Hussain Pirzada, Ahad Khan Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb, and Ali Pervaiz Malik, as well as the Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and other senior officials.

Officials briefed the Prime Minister on progress related to the government’s ongoing low-cost housing initiatives. It was shared that the Condominium Act 2025 and proposed amendments to the Foreclosure Law were nearing final approval stages. Once enacted, these laws will simplify the loan process for those seeking to build or purchase homes under affordable housing programs.

Prime Minister Shehbaz reiterated that his administration is fully committed to creating a more inclusive and equitable society through accessible housing, and pledged to personally oversee the progress of these transformative initiatives.
