PM Shehbaz restores gas connection for domestic consumers

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif

Islamabad, October 26, 2025 – Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday officially launched the process of supplying Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) connections to domestic consumers across Pakistan, marking a major step toward improving energy access for households.

Speaking at a ceremony in Islamabad, the prime minister said that the restoration of gas connections had been a long-standing public demand that the government had now fulfilled. He recalled that when the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government took office in 2022, there was immense pressure to resume gas supply to homes, but the situation was difficult due to limited resources and infrastructure challenges.

PM Shehbaz explained that after overcoming these hurdles, funds were allocated, and new pipelines and distribution systems were laid down. As a result, RLNG supply would now be extended nationwide, benefiting thousands of domestic consumers awaiting new connections.

Highlighting his government’s commitment to public welfare, the prime minister termed the initiative a continuation of the development-oriented policies introduced during the tenure of former Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif. He reminded the audience that when Nawaz Sharif assumed office for the third time, the country was grappling with severe power outages lasting up to 20 hours a day — an issue that was later resolved through focused energy reforms.

PM Shehbaz also congratulated all coalition partners, including the PPP, MQM, BAP, and other allied parties, for their collective efforts in ensuring the restoration of gas supply to households. He prayed for Pakistan’s continued progress and urged citizens to work hard for the country’s prosperity.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, cabinet members, secretaries, parliamentarians, and senior officials from Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL).

In a video message played during the event, Minister for Energy Ali Pervaiz Malik revealed that SNGPL had successfully reduced its line losses to 4.93 percent and recorded a profit of Rs29 billion during the previous year, reflecting improved operational efficiency and governance.

The initiative signals a renewed government commitment to resolving Pakistan’s long-standing gas supply challenges and supporting millions of households dependent on natural gas for their daily needs.
