Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued strict directives to ensure uninterrupted gas supply during Sehri and Iftar hours throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
The decision follows widespread public complaints regarding low gas pressure on the first day of fasting, causing inconvenience to households preparing pre-dawn and evening meals.
Responding to the concerns, PM Shehbaz called for an emergency meeting with high-ranking officials from both Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC). The meeting, attended by managing directors and senior executives, focused on devising immediate solutions to stabilize the gas supply and prevent further disruptions.
Following the directives of PM Shehbaz, both gas companies have taken urgent measures to enhance monitoring and regulation of gas pressure throughout Ramadan. Field teams and control rooms have been mobilized to keep a close watch on distribution networks, ensuring a steady and sufficient flow of gas to domestic consumers.
To mitigate supply issues, authorities have decided to boost gas pressure by an average of 10%, which is expected to significantly improve the situation. Additionally, areas situated at the tail end of the gas supply network will receive an early flow of gas, with supply being opened 30 to 45 minutes before Sehri and Iftar timings. This proactive approach aims to stabilize pressure and ensure that every household has access to adequate gas when it is most needed.
In line with PM Shehbaz’s directives, an additional 20 MMCFD (Million Cubic Feet per Day) of gas will be inducted into the transmission system to further strengthen the supply infrastructure. This step is expected to enhance the overall transmission capacity and alleviate shortages faced in high-demand areas.
To ensure real-time monitoring, dedicated control rooms will be set up at both the head offices and regional offices of gas companies. These control rooms will oversee network performance on a daily basis, allowing officials to promptly address any emerging issues.
PM Shehbaz has also directed regional officials to submit daily reports detailing the gas supply situation and consumer grievances. Complaints regarding low gas pressure will be handled on an urgent basis, ensuring that citizens do not face difficulties during their pre-dawn and evening meal preparations.
By taking these decisive actions, PM Shehbaz aims to ensure that the people of Pakistan can observe their fasts without the added stress of gas shortages, demonstrating his commitment to addressing public concerns effectively.
