PM Shehbaz on Independence Day

Islamabad, October 16, 2025 – Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has urged both national and international collaboration to ensure food security and universal access to adequate, nutritious, and safe food amid the growing threat of climate change.

In his message marking World Food Day, the prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with the global community, emphasizing food as a fundamental human right and a shared responsibility. “This year’s theme — Better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life — highlights the need for strong cooperation among farmers, policymakers, institutions, and the public,” he stated.

PM Shehbaz underscored that agriculture remains the backbone of Pakistan’s economy and plays a critical role in ensuring food security. He reiterated that the welfare of farmers, sustainable agricultural growth, and modern capacity-building initiatives are top government priorities.

Addressing the impacts of climate change, the prime minister pointed to erratic weather patterns, unpredictable crop yields, and severe climate-induced damage as major threats to food availability and farmer livelihoods. He added that Pakistan is implementing a comprehensive national strategy to mitigate these challenges through efficient use of resources and modern farming techniques.

Referring to the recent devastating floods, he noted the significant damage to crops and the food supply chain but assured that the government remains committed to restoring agricultural production and providing relief to affected communities.

PM Shehbaz Sharif called on all stakeholders — government bodies, private institutions, and citizens — to unite in addressing food insecurity, promoting climate resilience, and ensuring a sustainable agricultural future for generations to come.
