PM Shehbaz vows economic strength, unity on Youm-e-Takbeer

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif

As Pakistan commemorated the 27th anniversary of Youm-e-Takbeer on Wednesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the nation’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding sovereignty and transforming Pakistan into an economic powerhouse.

The day marks a historic milestone when Pakistan conducted its successful nuclear tests on May 28, 1998, emerging as the seventh nuclear power in the world and the first among Muslim-majority countries.

In a passionate address to the nation, Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed deep gratitude to Allah Almighty and extended heartfelt congratulations to all Pakistanis. “Today, on Youm-e-Takbeer, I thank Allah Almighty and congratulate the entire nation and all patriotic citizens from the core of my heart,” he stated.

Highlighting the significance of Youm-e-Takbeer, the Prime Minister said it is not just a celebration but a solemn reminder of Pakistan’s ironclad resolve to defend its territorial integrity. He drew a parallel between the spirit of 1998 and the recent events of May 6–10, when the country successfully defended itself against what he called an “unjustified war imposed by India.” He declared, “The joys of Youm-e-Takbeer have further increased for a nation filled with victory.”

Reflecting on the decision made by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to respond with six nuclear tests in defiance of immense international pressure, Shehbaz emphasized that the move was a testament to national unity and courage. “Mr. Nawaz Sharif represented the aspirations and interests of the nation and made our geographical borders impregnable forever,” he said.

PM Shehbaz paid glowing tributes to the visionaries behind Pakistan’s nuclear journey, including Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, the scientific community, and the armed forces. He also praised the public for their sacrifices and unwavering support.

“Youm-e-Takbeer is not only a symbol of military strength but a call to action for economic revival,” the Prime Minister noted. “Let us channel the spirit of Youm-e-Takbeer to build a prosperous, self-reliant Pakistan. Today, we pledge to make Pakistan an economic power and uphold our freedom and sovereignty. Insha Allah. Long live Pakistan.”
