Islamabad, January 12, 2026 – Certain social media platforms are circulating misleading and unverified weather forecasts claiming that Pakistan will experience an extreme and record-breaking cold wave between January 16 and January 25. These reports have sparked unnecessary concern among the public by suggesting historically low temperatures across the country.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has categorically rejected these claims, stating that no such extreme or unprecedented cold spell is expected during the mentioned period. According to PMD officials, the forecasts being shared online are not based on verified scientific data and should not be considered credible.
Based on the latest numerical weather prediction models and real-time observational data, the PMD clarified that temperatures across most parts of Pakistan are expected to remain within the normal winter range. While typical seasonal cold conditions may prevail in certain regions, there is no indication of a widespread, prolonged, or record-breaking cold wave affecting the country.
The department emphasized that winter weather patterns during this time of the year are consistent with climatological norms, and any short-lived temperature drops will be part of routine seasonal variability rather than an extreme event.
The PMD has urged the public, media outlets, and relevant stakeholders to rely only on official weather forecasts, warnings, and advisories issued through its authorized channels. It also advised against sharing unverified or sensational content on social media, warning that such misinformation can create unnecessary panic and disrupt daily life.
Citizens are encouraged to stay informed through PMD’s official updates for accurate and timely weather information.
