PMD warns of flash floods as heavy rain targets Balochistan, D.G. Khan

Heavy rain is forecast in parts of Balochistan, Punjab and northern areas, while landslides are possible in mountainous regions.

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned of possible flash flooding in local streams and nullahs in northeastern Balochistan and Dera Ghazi Khan as moderate monsoon currents continue to affect parts of the country.

The weather department also cautioned about possible landslides in mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.

According to the PMD, moderate monsoon currents are penetrating the upper and central parts of Pakistan, while a westerly wave is affecting the upper and western regions and is expected to persist for the next 24 hours.

Rain forecast for Sunday

On Sunday, rain-wind/thundershowers with isolated heavy falls are expected in central Punjab, northeastern Balochistan, northern and southern parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Hot and humid weather is likely to prevail in other parts of the country.

Weather outlook for Monday

The PMD forecast mainly hot and humid conditions across the country on Monday.

However, rain-wind/thundershowers are expected in northeastern Balochistan, northeastern and central Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and adjoining hilly areas.

Heavy rain recorded in Islamabad, Rawalpindi

During the past 24 hours, rain-wind/thundershowers, with isolated heavy falls, occurred in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, while hot and humid weather prevailed elsewhere.

Islamabad received significant rainfall, with 85mm recorded at Saidpur, followed by 75mm each at Golra and Zero Point, 52mm at Bokra and 16mm at the airport.

Rawalpindi also received substantial rainfall, including 64mm each at Shamsabad and Kattarian, 62mm at Pirwidhai, 60mm at Chaklala, 43mm at Gawalmandi and 35mm at Katcheri.

Other notable rainfall totals included 21mm in Attock, 18mm in Murree and 17mm in Sialkot city.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rainfall was recorded at several locations, including Malam Jabba, Parachinar, Mir Khani, Dera Ismail Khan, Saidu Sharif, Dir, Kakul, Bannu, Kalam and Drosh.

Muzaffarabad received 9mm at its airport and 4mm in the city, while Hunza recorded 7mm and Bunji 2mm in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Meanwhile, temperatures remained high in parts of the country. Nokundi and Dalbandin recorded the highest maximum temperature of 46°C, while Sibbi and Dadu reached 43°C.
