PMD Forecasts Cold and Dry Conditions with Isolated Rainfall

Karachi, December 22, 2023 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has released its weather forecast for Saturday, December 23, 2023, anticipating mainly cold and dry conditions in most parts of the country.

However, upper regions are expected to experience partly cloudy weather. Isolated areas in the Pothohar region, upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and adjoining hilly areas may witness light rain, with the possibility of light snowfall over mountains during the morning hours. Additionally, fog and smog are likely to persist in the plain areas of Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh.

The weather forecast for Friday, December 22, 2023, indicated mainly cold and cloudy weather in most upper and central parts of Pakistan. Isolated areas in Kashmir, Islamabad, the Pothohar region, Upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, northeast Balochistan, and Southern Punjab experienced light rain and drizzle, with the likelihood of light snow over mountains. Similar to the forecast for December 23, fog and smog persisted in the plain areas of Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh.

The synoptic situation, as reported by the PMD, reveals the influence of a westerly wave affecting the central and upper regions of the country.

Over the past 24 hours, cold and dry weather dominated most parts of Pakistan, with extremely cold conditions observed in northern areas. Sukkur, Kalat, and Dalbandin recorded 01 mm of rain, providing a slight respite from the prevailing dry conditions.

The recorded lowest minimum temperatures for today (December 22, 2023) are as follows: Leh at -10°C, Skardu at -09°C, Kalam, Gilgit, and Gupis at -05°C, and Astore and Hunza at -04°C.
