PMD Forecasts Dry Weather for Most Districts of Punjab

Pakistan Weather

Islamabad, March 15, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted predominantly dry weather across most districts of Punjab on Sunday, March 16, 2025.

However, certain northern areas of the province, including Murree and Galliyat, may experience partly cloudy conditions with the possibility of light rain and snowfall in the afternoon.

According to the PMD, a westerly wave currently influencing various regions of the country is expected to persist in the upper parts until Sunday morning. As a result, isolated rain, wind, and thunderstorms are likely in select areas of Punjab on Saturday night. These include Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Lahore, and Sheikhupura. Additionally, Murree and Galliyat are expected to receive light rain and snowfall, contributing to chilly conditions in these hilly areas.

National Weather Outlook

On Saturday, the PMD anticipates rain, wind, and thunderstorms accompanied by light snowfall over the high-altitude regions of Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeast Punjab, and the Potohar region. In North Balochistan, sporadic rain and thunderstorms may also occur. By Sunday, dry weather is expected to dominate most parts of the country, though colder conditions will persist in the upper regions during the morning hours. Light rain and thunderstorms, along with minor snowfall, are possible in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and their adjoining areas.

Recent Weather Observations

During the past 24 hours, most parts of Pakistan witnessed partly cloudy conditions, while isolated areas in Punjab, Sindh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa experienced rain and thunderstorms. According to the PMD, Punjab saw moderate rainfall in Hafizabad (16mm), Islamabad Airport (15mm), and Lahore Airport (7mm). Light showers were recorded in Murree (6mm), Sialkot, Faisalabad (5mm), and several other districts.

The PMD further reported that the lowest recorded temperatures in Pakistan included Leh at -3°C, followed by Astore, Gupis, and Parachinar at 0°C. Punjab’s Murree recorded a minimum temperature of 2°C, contributing to its chilly atmosphere.
