Islamabad, April 23, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather forecast predicting persistently hot and dry conditions throughout the country for the next two days.
According to the latest updates from the PMD, most regions of the country will continue to experience significantly high temperatures under the influence of continental air.
On Wednesday, hot and dry weather will prevail over the majority of the country. However, residents in Gilgit-Baltistan may witness light rain or a thunderstorm at isolated locations. The PMD has further stated that by Thursday, April 24, hot and dry conditions will continue across the country, though there is a possibility of rain during the night in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir.
The synoptic situation suggests that continental air is dominating most parts of the country, contributing to the prolonged dry spell. This weather pattern is likely to intensify daytime heat and may affect outdoor activities, especially in southern and central regions.
Over the past 24 hours, hot and dry weather prevailed in most parts of the country, with the southern areas experiencing extremely high temperatures. However, isolated showers were recorded in Gilgit-Baltistan, where Bagrote and Bunji received 1 mm of rainfall each.
The PMD also released data on the highest recorded temperatures yesterday, with Jacobabad topping the list at a scorching 44°C. Other cities such as Chhor, Larkana, Lasbella, Mithi, Dadu, Mirpur Khas, and Shaheed Benazirabad closely followed with temperatures hitting 43°C.
The PMD has advised citizens across the country to take necessary precautions to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. As the heatwave-like conditions persist, the PMD will continue monitoring the situation and provide timely updates. With the country under the grip of dry continental winds, relief from the heat remains uncertain in the immediate future.
