June 21, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted hot and dry weather across most parts of the country for Saturday, June 22, 2024. According to the PMD’s forecast, the majority of regions will experience predominantly hot and dry conditions.
However, the PMD has indicated that windstorms and thunderstorm-rain are expected at isolated locations in southern Sindh, eastern Balochistan, southern Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and the adjoining hilly areas.
Detailing the synoptic situation, the PMD reported that moist currents from the Arabian Sea are penetrating central and southern regions of the country, and a shallow westerly wave is also present over the upper parts of the country. This synoptic setup is expected to influence the weather patterns over the weekend.
For Friday, June 21, 2024, the PMD predicted similar weather conditions with windstorms and thunderstorm-rain anticipated in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeast Balochistan, southern Sindh, Islamabad, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Over the past 24 hours, widespread windstorms and thunderstorm-rain occurred in upper Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeast Balochistan, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Hot and dry weather prevailed in other regions.
The PMD reported significant rainfall in various regions over the past 24 hours, including:
• Sindh: Larkana (42 mm), Sukkur (41 mm), Rohri (27 mm), Mohenjodaro (26 mm), Khairpur (23 mm), and Jacobabad (16 mm).
• Punjab: Lahore Airport (33 mm), D.G. Khan (30 mm), Chakwal (29 mm), Bahawalnagar (28 mm), Layyah (27 mm), and Faisalabad (20 mm).
• Kashmir: Muzaffarabad (City 19 mm, AP 14 mm), Rawalakot (11 mm), and Kotli (07 mm).
• Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Malam Jabba (07 mm), Kalam (06 mm), and D.I. Khan (05 mm).
• Balochistan: Barkhan (10 mm) and Sibbi (09 mm).
The highest recorded maximum temperatures for the previous day included Gawadar, Sibbi, and Turbat at 48°C, followed by Pasni at 46°C, and Jacobabad, Jiwani, and Lasbella at 45°C.
