Met Office warns of heavy rain, urban flooding and strong winds across parts of Sindh and other regions from Friday through Monday

KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast light rain in Karachi on Saturday, July 25, 2026, as active monsoon currents continue to influence southern parts of the country.

According to the latest weather advisory, Karachi is expected to experience partly cloudy weather with light rain, while several districts of Sindh are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall over the weekend.

Heavy rain expected across Sindh

The PMD said rain, wind and thundershowers are expected in the following districts:

• Tharparkar

• Umerkot

• Mirpurkhas

• Badin

• Sanghar

• Tando Muhammad Khan

• Tando Allahyar

• Hyderabad

• Matiari

• Jamshoro

• Shaheed Benazirabad

• Ghotki

• Kashmore

• Jacobabad

• Shikarpur

• Sukkur

• Qambar Shahdadkot

• Larkana

• Khairpur

• Naushahro Feroze

• Thatta

Moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls is also forecast in these areas.

PMD issues weather warnings

The Met Office warned that heavy rainfall from Friday evening through Monday could lead to:

• Urban flooding in low-lying areas of Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Gujrat, Sahiwal, Khanewal, Multan, Faisalabad, and parts of Sindh.

• Hill torrents in the Dera Ghazi Khan hill streams and local streams in northeastern Balochistan.

• Damage to vulnerable infrastructure, including solar panels, electricity poles, billboards and weak structures, due to strong winds and lightning.

Monsoon system remains active

According to the PMD, a low-pressure area (LPA) is currently located over southwest Rajasthan and adjoining areas, allowing monsoon currents to continue penetrating southern and central Pakistan.

The prevailing weather system is expected to increase the likelihood of widespread rainfall across several regions during the weekend.

Friday

Mainly partly cloudy weather is expected over most upper parts of the country. However, isolated rain, wind and thundershowers are likely in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Punjab, northeastern Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Isolated heavy rainfall is also expected in Sindh, northeastern Balochistan, northeastern Punjab and Kashmir.

Saturday

Rain, wind and thundershowers are forecast across Sindh, southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Punjab and northeastern Balochistan, with isolated heavy falls likely in Sindh and southern Punjab.

Rainfall recorded during the past 24 hours

The PMD reported rain, wind and thundershowers, including isolated heavy falls, across Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and upper Sindh, while southern parts of the country remained hot and humid.

Among the highest rainfall totals recorded were:

• Sindh: Nagarparkar 80 mm, Mithi 17 mm, Kaloi 10 mm, Dhulli 10 mm

• Punjab: Sheikhupura 67 mm, Sialkot City 43 mm, Narowal 35 mm, Gujranwala 22 mm, Lahore Airport 18 mm

• Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Pattan 28 mm, Bacha Khan Airport 18 mm, Peshawar Airport 17 mm

• Gilgit-Baltistan: Hunza 10 mm

• Kashmir: Muzaffarabad Airport 8 mm

The highest maximum temperatures recorded on Thursday were:

• Dalbandin: 45°C

• Turbat: 43°C

• Nokkundi: 43°C

The PMD has advised residents, particularly those living in low-lying and flood-prone areas, to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall, and follow weather advisories issued by the department and local authorities throughout the weekend.
