PMD forecasts rain and gusty winds in Islamabad over next 48 hours

Islamabad, December 20, 2025 — The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain accompanied by gusty winds in Islamabad and surrounding areas during the next 48 hours, as a fresh westerly weather system moves across upper parts of the country.

According to the PMD, Saturday is expected to remain cold and mostly cloudy in Islamabad. However, residents should brace for rain and strong winds during the evening or night hours as the weather system strengthens. On Sunday, cold and cloudy conditions are likely to persist, with rain and wind expected throughout the day in the federal capital and nearby regions.

At the national level, meteorologists reported that a westerly wave is currently affecting western parts of Balochistan and is likely to spread to most northern and upper regions of Pakistan from Saturday afternoon and evening. This system is expected to bring widespread rainfall and snowfall over mountainous areas.

For Saturday, cold and partly cloudy weather is forecast for most parts of the country. Rain, along with snowfall over high-altitude regions, is expected in northern and western Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and the Potohar region. Fog and smog may continue to disrupt visibility in several districts of Punjab and upper Sindh.

On Sunday, rain and snowfall over mountains are expected in northwestern Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Islamabad, and the Potohar belt. Elsewhere, cold and partly cloudy weather will prevail, while fog and smog are likely to persist in central and southern Punjab as well as upper Sindh.

During the past 24 hours, cold and partly cloudy conditions dominated most parts of Pakistan, with fog and smog reported in parts of Punjab and upper Sindh. Light rainfall was recorded at isolated locations in southwestern Balochistan, including Jiwani (9 mm) and Gwadar (8 mm).

The PMD reported that the lowest minimum temperatures were recorded in Leh (-4°C), Bagrote and Gupis (-2°C), Skardu (-1°C), while Kalat and Parachinar touched the freezing point at 0°C.
