PMD Forecasts Rain and Snowfall in Murree from January 29

Islamabad, January 28, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather advisory predicting rain and snowfall in Murree starting January 29, 2024.

Tourists planning to visit various northern regions are advised to stay updated as the forecast includes cloudy weather with intermittent rain or snow in several areas.

According to the PMD’s advisory, from Monday to Thursday, Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Kaghan, Naran, Chitral, Dir, Kalam, Malam Jabba, Saidu Sharif, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Murree, and Galliyat are expected to experience very cold and partly cloudy weather with intermittent rain or snow. Additionally, Ziarat and surrounding areas are anticipated to have very cold and partly cloudy weather with light rain or snow on Sunday and Monday, followed by cold and dry conditions from Tuesday to Thursday.

The PMD has issued a warning regarding possible disruptions in transportation due to snowfall over the upper parts of the country. Tourists are urged to exercise caution and stay informed about the evolving weather conditions.

Explaining the synoptic situation, the PMD highlighted that a westerly wave is currently affecting western and upper parts of the country and is likely to persist in the upper regions for the next few days.

For Monday, January 29, 2024, the PMD forecasted mainly cold weather across most areas of the country with cloud cover in upper districts. Rainfall (snowfall over mountains) is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and surrounding hilly areas. Shallow to moderate fog is likely to persist in a few plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh.

On Sunday, January 28, 2024, the weather is predicted to be mainly cold and partly cloudy in most areas of the country, with cloud cover in upper districts. Rainfall (snowfall over mountains) is anticipated in Islamabad, the Pothohar region, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and northern Balochistan. Shallow to moderate fog is likely to persist in some plain areas of Punjab.

The weather during the past 24 hours witnessed cold conditions prevailing over most parts of the country, with partly cloudy skies in the upper regions. Parachinar recorded 1mm of rain, while fog and smog persisted over the plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh.

The recorded lowest minimum temperatures in the past 24 hours were as follows: Leh -8°C, Kalam -6°C, Skardu and Gupis -5°C, Astore -4°C, and Malam Jabba -3°C. As the winter weather intensifies, residents and travelers are advised to stay updated with the latest forecasts and take necessary precautions.
