Islamabad, September 19, 2023 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather forecast predicting rain accompanied by wind or thundershowers in Karachi and Hyderabad on Wednesday, September 20, 2023.
According to the PMD’s weather forecast, partly cloudy conditions are expected in most districts of the province on September 20, 2023. However, significant weather changes are anticipated in various areas. Rain with wind or thundershowers is predicted in several regions, including Tharparkar, Mithi, Umarkot, Islamkot, Jacobabad, Sukkur, Dadu, Chhor, Padidan, Shaheed Benazirabad, Mityari, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Sanghar, Jamshoro, Khairpur, Qamber Shahdadkot, Karachi, and Hyderabad.
During this period, heavy rainfall, occasionally very heavy, is expected in Mirpur Khas, Thatta, Badin, Nagarparkar, Sajawal, and Karachi.
At a national level, the PMD forecasts widespread rain accompanied by wind or thundershowers in Sindh, with scattered rainfall in Eastern Punjab, North/East Balochistan, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir on Wednesday. Additionally, isolated areas in Lower Sindh may experience heavy rainfall during this period.
The synoptic situation leading to these weather changes is attributed to a westerly wave affecting upper and western regions of Pakistan. Furthermore, a low-pressure area (LPA) situated south of Rajasthan, India, is expected to move southwestward in the next 24 to 36 hours.
Over the past 24 hours, the PMD reported rainfall with wind and thundershowers in various regions, including Punjab, Lower Sindh, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir. Meanwhile, dry weather conditions prevailed in other parts of the country.
Notable recorded rainfall measurements (in millimeters) include Lahore, with significant precipitation at several locations within the city. Maximum temperatures in Turbat reached 42°C, while Sibbi, Nokkundi, Dalbandin, and Lasbella recorded maximum temperatures of 40°C.
The PMD’s weather forecast serves as a valuable tool for residents and authorities to prepare for changing weather conditions, ensuring public safety and well-being during meteorologically dynamic periods.
