Pakistan vs. New Zealand: ICC 2023 Warm-up Match

Pakistan vs. New Zealand: ICC 2023 Warm-up Match

The much-anticipated warm-up clash between Pakistan and New Zealand in preparation for the ICC World Cup 2023 is scheduled for September 29 in Hyderabad, India.

However, heightened security concerns have led to a decision to hold the match behind closed doors, with no spectators allowed.

This security measure has been implemented due to the Hyderabad city police’s concerns, citing simultaneous major religious festivals, Ganesh Visarjan and Eid Milad-un-Nabi, taking place in the city. To ensure the safety of all participants, it has been deemed necessary to conduct the match without a live audience.

An official from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) clarified, “The processions associated with these festivals will continue late into the night, and the local police cannot guarantee adequate security for a match of this magnitude. Rest assured, both teams will receive full security during their stay and transit to the stadium.”

For disappointed fans, the BCCI, along with the hosting association and ticketing partners, will facilitate ticket refunds.

Earlier, the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) had requested a schedule adjustment for back-to-back matches scheduled for October 9 and 10, featuring New Zealand vs. Netherlands and Pakistan vs. Sri Lanka, respectively.

This request was made due to security concerns raised by local law enforcement. While a last-minute date change was not possible, security authorities have taken steps to address these concerns.

Pakistan is scheduled to participate in a total of eleven matches in the ICC World Cup, including two warm-up matches and two group games, all set to take place in Hyderabad. The Men in Green are expected to arrive in Hyderabad via Dubai on September 27.
