Karachi, June 14, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted a series of thundershowers across the country, commencing from the evening of June 18 and continuing until June 22, 2024.
This weather prediction comes as moist currents from the Arabian Sea are expected to penetrate the upper and central regions of Pakistan, accompanied by a shallow westerly wave approaching the western parts on June 18.
Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir:
In Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, thundershowers are anticipated to begin on the evening of June 18, continuing intermittently until June 22. The affected areas include Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shigar in Gilgit-Baltistan, along with Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur in Kashmir. Prior to the onset of these thundershowers, hot and dry weather will prevail in these regions on June 16 and 17. A few heavy falls are also expected in Kashmir during this period.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa:
The province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will also experience thundershowers, particularly in Dir, Swat, Malakand, Bajaur, Kohistan, Chitral, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Hangu, Kurram, and Waziristan starting from the evening of June 18. The weather in the southern parts of the province is expected to remain very hot and dry from June 16 to 18. The rain-wind/thundershowers will persist with occasional gaps until June 22.
Punjab and Islamabad:
In Punjab and Islamabad, dust/thundershowers are forecasted to begin on the evening of June 18, affecting Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Bhakkar, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Okara, Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Lahore, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Wazirabad, Sialkot, Narowal, and Gujranwala. The hot and dry spell will dominate most parts of the province from June 16 to 18. From June 18 to 22, rain-wind/thundershower/duststorm conditions with occasional heavy falls are expected across a wide range of areas including Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar, and Mianwali. The southern parts of Punjab such as Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, D.G. Khan, Sahiwal, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan, and Layyah will see similar conditions from June 20 to 22.
Balochistan:
Very hot and dry weather will persist across most parts of Balochistan from June 16 to 18. Duststorm and thundershowers with rain are expected in Quetta, Zhob, Kohlu, Musakhel, Loralai, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Jaffarabad, Dera Bugti, and Barkhan from June 20 to 22.
Sindh:
Sindh will experience very hot and dry conditions from June 17 to 20. Duststorm and gusty winds with isolated rain-thundershowers are forecasted for Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, and Larkana on June 21 and 22.
The PMD’s forecast indicates a significant shift in weather patterns across Pakistan, urging residents to prepare for the upcoming thundershowers and take necessary precautions, particularly in regions expected to experience heavy falls.
