PMD forecasts thundershowers for Islamabad on July 6

Weather Forecast Thundershowers

Islamabad, July 5, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain-wind/thundershowers in Islamabad on Sunday, July 6, with a 60% chance of occurrence.

The weather is expected to remain mainly hot and very humid with partly cloudy skies, but rainfall activity may develop in Islamabad and its surrounding areas.

According to the PMD, for Saturday night, the capital will experience hot and humid weather, but there’s a 40% probability of thundershowers at isolated places. The PMD has also warned of possible urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, and other major cities during the wet spell spanning July 6 and 7.

The PMD’s advisory highlights potential flash flooding in local streams and nullahs of Murree, Galliyat, Manshera, Abbottabad, and parts of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, as well as landslides in hilly regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir. Citizens are urged to stay cautious and avoid unnecessary travel in vulnerable areas during this period.

At the national level, weak monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are currently affecting upper and central parts of the country. These currents are expected to intensify by Saturday night. Additionally, a westerly wave will likely impact the upper regions, including Islamabad, from the evening of July 6.

On Saturday, the weather across the country will remain largely hot and humid, with isolated rain-wind/thundershowers forecast for northeastern Punjab, the Potohar region, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, southeastern Sindh, and parts of Balochistan.

For Sunday, the PMD anticipates similar hot and humid conditions nationwide, but intermittent rainfall is expected at various locations including Kashmir, upper/central Punjab, and Islamabad. Heavyfalls are also likely in Potohar, northeastern Punjab, and northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In the past 24 hours, Islamabad recorded significant rainfall, with Saidpur receiving 75 mm, the city area 45 mm, and smaller amounts at Bokra and Golra. Similar activity was reported in Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Jhelum, and Kashmir.

As temperatures remain high – with Nokkundi peaking at 48°C – the PMD urges residents of Islamabad and nearby regions to stay weather-aware and take all necessary precautions.
