PMD Forecasts Thunderstorms for Upper Sindh on April 14

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather forecast for Sunday, April 14, 2024, predicting thunderstorms for upper Sindh, alongside a range of weather phenomena across various regions of the country.

According to the PMD’s forecast, more rain, wind, and thunderstorms are expected in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Islamabad, Punjab, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and upper Sindh on Sunday. Additionally, heavy falls and hailstorms are likely at isolated places in upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, upper Balochistan, and upper Punjab. Moreover, snowfall is anticipated on mountains in northern areas.

In light of these forecasts, the PMD has issued a warning for heavy and torrential rains that may trigger flash floods in local nullas of several regions, including Dera Ghazi Khan, Koh-e-Suleman, Khuzdar, Ziarat, Zhob, Sherani, Muslim Bagh, Quetta, Pishin, Kech, Panjgur, Gwadar, and Turbat during the night of April 13 and on April 14. Additionally, flooding may occur in low-lying areas during the forecast period.

Furthermore, the PMD has cautioned about the possibility of flash flooding in local nullahs and streams of Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan, Manshera, and tributaries of Kabul River from April 14 to 15. Landslides are also expected in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan during this period, potentially affecting vulnerable locations.

Explaining the synoptic situation, the PMD highlighted the influence of a strong westerly wave affecting most parts of the country, with moisture from the Arabian Sea penetrating southern regions.

The weather condition for Saturday, April 13, 2024, was characterized by rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms in various parts of Pakistan, including Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Punjab, Islamabad, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and upper/central Sindh. Heavy falls and hailstorms were reported at isolated places in upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, north/south Balochistan, south Punjab, and the Pothohar region. Snowfall was also recorded in mountainous areas in the north.

During the past 24 hours, partly cloudy weather prevailed over most parts of the country, with rain, wind, and thunderstorms occurring in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Punjab, Kashmir, and upper Sindh.

The PMD also provided rainfall data, with notable figures recorded in various regions, including Dir, Saidu Sharif, Kalam, Chitral, Malamjabba, and others.
