Karachi and southeastern Sindh could experience heavy rain, thunderstorms and hailstorms as a low-pressure system moves west-northwestwards.

KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain, thunderstorms, isolated heavy rainfall and hailstorms in Karachi and several districts of Sindh from Sunday night.

According to the latest weather forecast, most districts of Sindh are expected to remain hot and humid, while partly cloudy conditions are likely in the southeastern parts of the province.

Rain and thunderstorms forecast in Karachi

The PMD has forecast rain, wind and thunderstorms in Tharparkar, Badin, Mirpur Khas, Umerkot, Thatta, Karachi and adjoining areas on Sunday night.

The department warned that isolated areas could receive heavy rainfall accompanied by hailstorms.

The unsettled weather is expected to continue on Monday, with hot and humid conditions prevailing across most districts. Partly cloudy skies are likely in southeastern areas, while rain, wind and thunderstorms are expected in Tharparkar, Badin, Mirpur Khas, Umerkot, Thatta, Karachi and surrounding areas.

The PMD has also warned of isolated heavy rainfall and hailstorms in these areas during Monday.

Weather system driving rainfall

The PMD said a low-pressure system previously located over Odisha in India had moved to Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas.

The system is expected to move west-northwestwards during the next 24 to 36 hours, potentially supporting the development of rain and thunderstorms in parts of Sindh.

Meanwhile, a shallow westerly trough is likely to approach the upper parts of the country during the next 24 hours.

Weather outlook for Pakistan

On Sunday, hot and humid weather is expected across most plain areas of Pakistan. However, isolated rain, wind and thundershowers are likely in southeastern Sindh.

Isolated rain and thunderstorms may also occur in northeastern Punjab.

On Monday, hot and humid conditions are expected to persist across most plain areas, while rain, wind and thundershowers are likely at isolated places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, the Potohar region and southeastern Sindh.

The department has warned of isolated heavy rainfall, windstorms and hailstorms in southeastern Sindh and the Potohar region during the period.

Weather recorded during past 24 hours

The PMD said weather remained hot and humid across most parts of the country during the past 24 hours.

Rain was recorded in parts of Punjab, with Lahore City receiving 12mm and Lahore Airport 4mm.

The highest maximum temperature of 42°C was recorded in Lasbela, Nokundi, Sibi, Mithi and Turbat.
