PMD Issues Five-Day Weather Advisory for Tourists

Karachi, January 8, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has released a comprehensive five-day weather update, providing crucial information for tourists planning to explore various regions across the country.

According to the Met office, the forecast indicates very cold and dry weather in popular tourist destinations such as Murree, Galliyat, Kaghan, Naran, Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Chitral, Dir, Kalam, Malam Jabba, Rawalakot, Muzaffarabad, and Neelum Valley from Tuesday to Saturday. Additionally, Ziarat and its surrounding areas are expected to experience very cold and dry conditions in the coming days.

Partly cloudy weather is anticipated in most tourist places on Friday and Saturday, enhancing the overall travel experience. The PMD’s weather update for Tuesday, January 9, 2024, foresees mainly cold and cloudy conditions in most upper parts of the country, with very cold temperatures in northern regions and north Balochistan. Dense fog/smog is likely to persist in plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh.

Looking back at Monday, January 8, 2024, the PMD reported mainly cold and cloudy weather in most upper and western parts of the country, with very cold conditions in the northern parts. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa experienced rain (snow over mountains), while Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, the Potohar region, and upper Punjab witnessed light rain/drizzle. Dense fog/smog persisted in plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh.

The synoptic situation, as per the met office, reveals the presence of a trough of westerly wave over western parts of the country, expected to persist in upper parts until Tuesday morning.

In the past 24 hours, the weather was recorded as cold and dry over most parts of the country, with very cold temperatures in northern areas. Dense fog/smog prevailed over plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper Sindh, and Islamabad. Notably, rain (snow over mountains) occurred in north Balochistan, with specific rainfall and snowfall measurements provided.

Recorded lowest minimum temperatures include Leh at -11°C, Skardu at -09°C, Kalam at -06°C, Gilgit and Gupis at -05°C, Srinagar at 04°C, and Hunza, Chitral, and Astore at -03°C.
