PMD Issues Flash Flood Warning for Gwadar on March 10, 2024

Islamabad, March 9, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a stern warning of potential flash floods in Gwadar on Sunday, March 10, 2024, urging residents and authorities to take precautionary measures.

According to the PMD, heavy rainfall is anticipated, posing a risk of flash flooding in local nullahs of Gwadar, Ketch, Turbat, and Panjgur during the night of March 9, 2024, and throughout the day on March 10, 2024. Additionally, the department has cautioned that snowfall may disrupt traffic in the northern parts of Balochistan on March 10.

The advisory highlights that a westerly wave is currently affecting western Balochistan and is expected to intensify its influence over most upper parts of the region on March 10.

As of Saturday, March 9, 2024, cold and dry weather is forecasted for most parts of the country, with the northern regions experiencing very cold and partly cloudy conditions. However, the southern districts of Balochistan may encounter cloudy weather with rain, wind, and thunderstorms.

Looking ahead to Sunday, March 10, 2024, the weather is expected to be cold and partly cloudy in most regions. However, rain, wind, and thunderstorms, accompanied by snowfall over hills, are predicted in Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and adjoining hilly areas.

In the past 24 hours, the weather has been cold and dry across most parts of the country, with particularly chilly conditions in the northern regions.

The recorded lowest minimum temperatures for today are as follows (°C): Kalam -10, Leh -09, Gupis -03, Hunza -02, Bagrote, and Malam Jabba -01.
