Pakistan Weather

Karachi, October 5, 2025: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has released a new advisory regarding the severe cyclone SHAKHTI, which continues to churn over the northwest Arabian Sea.

According to the latest update, the cyclonic storm SHAKHTI has moved west-southwestward during the past six hours and is now centered near Latitude 21.0N and Longitude 61.8E — approximately 700 kilometers southwest of Karachi.

The PMD forecasts that cyclone SHAKHTI will likely maintain its west-southwest trajectory until October 6, before recurving eastward toward the west-central and northeast Arabian Sea within the following 24 hours. The system is expected to gradually weaken as it moves further away.

Under the influence of SHAKHTI, isolated light rain and thunderstorms are likely in coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan today. Sea conditions are predicted to remain rough to very rough, with squally winds blowing at 40–50 km/h, gusting up to 55 km/h along the Sindh coast. Fishermen have been strongly advised to avoid venturing into deep sea waters until further notice.

Near the cyclone’s center, gale-force winds are expected to reach speeds of 110–120 km/h, gusting up to 135 km/h, before gradually decreasing to 80–90 km/h over the next 12 hours. Sea conditions will remain very rough to high during the next 36 hours.

The PMD’s Cyclone Warning Center in Karachi continues to closely monitor the evolving path of cyclone SHAKHTI and will issue regular updates to ensure timely safety measures.
