Islamabad, May 26, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a strong weather alert for the central and upper regions of the country, warning of an extended spell of unstable conditions, including windstorms, thunderstorms, and heavy rain over the coming days.

According to the PMD, moist currents are steadily entering the upper and central regions of Pakistan, while a new westerly wave is expected to impact the upper parts of the country starting May 28. Under the influence of this evolving weather system, widespread weather activity is anticipated across multiple districts.

From the evening of May 27 to May 31, intermittent windstorms and thunderstorms, some accompanied by heavy rainfall and hail, are forecast in areas including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, and other parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa such as Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Gujrat, Abbottabad, and Peshawar. Northern regions like Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are also under alert.

Additionally, light to moderate rain-thunderstorms are expected in southern and southwestern districts such as D.G. Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Bahawalpur, and D.I. Khan from May 27 to May 30, with occasional gaps, the PMD noted.

The PMD warned that these weather conditions could cause significant disruption. High-speed windstorms and hailstorms may damage vulnerable structures, including power lines, solar panels, trees, and roadside installations. The department has urged farmers to plan agricultural activities accordingly and protect their crops.

The general public, especially travelers and tourists visiting hilly or northern regions, have been advised to take all necessary safety precautions during this period of unstable weather. The PMD emphasized that visibility issues, slippery roads, and flash flooding could pose serious risks.

“All concerned authorities are advised to remain on high alert and take proactive measures to minimize potential damage and ensure public safety,” the PMD stated in its advisory.

This alert underscores the importance of staying informed through official PMD channels as conditions may evolve rapidly throughout the week.
