Pakistan Weather

Islamabad, July 22, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has released an extensive weather advisory for Wednesday, July 23, forecasting heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and potential flash floods across several parts of the country.

According to the PMD, weather conditions are expected to become severe over the next 24 hours due to the strong penetration of moist currents from the Arabian Sea, coupled with a westerly wave currently influencing the upper regions of Pakistan. The PMD warns that heavy rain may trigger flash floods in local nullahs and streams across Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, and northeastern Punjab including D.G. Khan and Kashmir.

The PMD has further cautioned about urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Okara, Nowshera, and Peshawar. Vulnerable hilly regions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan may experience landslides or mudslides, potentially leading to road closures and infrastructure damage.

Additionally, strong winds, lightning, and heavy downpours could damage weak structures such as kacha houses, billboards, electric poles, solar panels, and parked vehicles. The PMD urges residents in affected areas to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions.

The synoptic situation highlights that most of the northern and northeastern regions will receive rain-wind-thunderstorms on Tuesday and Wednesday. Isolated heavyfalls are expected in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Potohar region, northeast Punjab, Kashmir, and surrounding hilly areas. Meanwhile, southern parts of Pakistan are likely to remain hot and humid.

In the past 24 hours, Islamabad witnessed intense rainfall with Saidpur recording 184 mm and Golra 99 mm. Rain also occurred in Rawalpindi, Narowal, Murree, Muzaffarabad, Kotli, Takht Bai, Saidu Sharif, and other areas. The PMD noted that weather remained hot and humid in most other regions.

The PMD continues to monitor developments closely and will provide updated weather alerts as needed. Citizens are encouraged to follow official advisories to stay safe.
