Islamabad, December 24, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast frost in Islamabad and nearby areas for Wednesday, December 25, 2024, as temperatures continue to drop across the region.
In its detailed weather outlook, the PMD stated that mainly cold and dry conditions are expected to persist across most parts of the country, with very cold weather likely in hilly regions during morning and nighttime. The PMD also warned of fog and smog patches in the plain areas of Upper Sindh and Punjab during the early and late hours, potentially affecting visibility. Frost is anticipated at isolated locations in Islamabad, the Pothohar region, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the early morning.
Discussing the prevailing synoptic conditions, the PMD noted that continental air is dominating most regions of the country, contributing to the ongoing cold and dry spell.
The PMD also shared observations for Tuesday, December 24, highlighting that cold and dry weather prevailed in most parts of Pakistan, while hilly areas remained particularly chilly. Fog and smog persisted in patches across the plains of Punjab and Upper Sindh, creating potential disruptions for commuters.
According to PMD data, the last 24 hours witnessed light drizzle and occasional snow at isolated locations, including Murree, Galliyat, and surrounding areas. These conditions, combined with the freezing temperatures, have enhanced the likelihood of frost formation, particularly in Islamabad and adjacent regions.
