PMD Predicts Very Cold Weather for Northern Areas on Jan 15

Islamabad, January 14, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast indicating a spell of very cold weather in the northern regions of the country on Monday, January 15, 2024.

According to the PMD report, the weather conditions on Monday, January 15, 2024, are expected to be mainly cold and dry in most plain areas of the country, with the northern parts experiencing very cold and partly cloudy conditions. Additionally, dense fog and smog are likely to persist in the plain areas of Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh. Some places in Kashmir and the Pothohar region may witness frost during the morning hours.

On Monday, January 14, 2024, the PMD noted that mainly cold and dry weather is anticipated in most plain areas of the country, with the northern parts experiencing very cold conditions. Dense fog and smog are expected to persist in the plain areas of Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh.

The PMD has issued a warning that dense fog is likely to continue over the plain areas of Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh during the next two days. Citizens are advised to exercise caution due to reduced visibility. Daytime temperatures are anticipated to remain below normal in most parts of Punjab owing to dense fog.

Regarding the synoptic situation, the PMD reported that continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country.

Over the past 24 hours, cold and dry weather prevailed over most parts of the country, with very cold and cloudy conditions observed in the northern parts. Dense fog and smog were prevalent in the plain areas of Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh.

The PMD also provided the lowest recorded minimum temperatures in various locations during the previous day, with Gupis recording -06°C, Leh, Kalam, and Skardu at -05°C, Gilgit and Kalat at -04°C, and Rawalakot at -03°C.
