ISLAMABAD, May 2, 2026 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department on Saturday issued a thunderstorm advisory for upper parts of the country, warning of rain, hailstorms and strong winds over the coming days.
The Met Office said a fresh westerly weather system is expected to enter northwestern regions on Saturday evening and persist in upper areas until May 5 morning.
Under the system’s influence, dust-thunderstorms and rain with isolated heavy falls and hailstorms are forecast across large parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Chitral, Swat, Dir, Mansehra, Abbottabad and Peshawar from May 2 evening to May 4.
Similar weather conditions are expected in Punjab and the federal capital Islamabad, where thunderstorms and isolated hailstorms may affect cities such as Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala and Sialkot through May 4 night.
Rain-windstorms are also likely in southern Punjab districts, including Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan, on May 3 and 4.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, rain and thunderstorms are expected from May 2 night to May 5, while similar conditions, including heavy falls and hailstorms, are forecast for Azad Jammu and Kashmir during the same period.
Parts of Balochistan, including Quetta, Zhob and Ziarat, may also experience windstorms and thunderstorms between May 2 and May 4.
In Sindh, dust thunderstorms are expected in upper districts on May 2 and 3.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department warned that strong winds, hail and lightning could damage vulnerable structures such as electric poles, billboards and solar panels.
It also cautioned about possible landslides in mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir on May 3 and 4, while farmers were advised to take measures to protect standing crops from potential damage.
The weather system is expected to ease prevailing heatwave conditions across the plains during the forecast period.
Authorities have been advised to remain vigilant, while tourists and travelers were urged to avoid unnecessary journeys and exercise caution.
