PMD Tracks Low Pressure Near Sindh, Rough Seas

Pakistan Weather

Islamabad, September 30, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Tuesday issued an alert regarding a low-pressure system that may trigger thunderstorms and rain across several districts of Sindh.

According to the PMD, the well-marked low-pressure area (WML) over the Gulf of Cambay and adjoining Gujarat, India, has moved west-northwestward and is now located over Saurashtra, Gujarat, about 340 kilometers southeast of Karachi. The system is projected to shift further west/southwest and enter the northeast Arabian Sea along the Gulf of Kutch by late night or tomorrow morning.

Favorable conditions, including warm sea surface temperatures, low to moderate vertical wind shear, and upper-level divergence, are expected to strengthen the system into a depression within 24 hours. Meteorologists caution that this could increase rainfall activity in southern parts of Pakistan, particularly Sindh.

Under the system’s influence, wind-thunderstorms and rain of light to moderate intensity are likely in districts such as Tharparkar, Umerkot, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Shaheed Benazirabad, Naushero Feroze, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Thatta, Sujawal, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Matiari, and the Karachi Division. Residents of Sindh have been urged to remain cautious during this period.

Sea conditions are forecast to remain rough to very rough, with squally winds reaching 45–55 km/h. The PMD has strongly advised fishermen from Sindh not to venture into the deep sea until October 2.

The PMD’s Cyclone Warning Centre in Karachi continues to monitor the evolving situation and will issue updates as necessary. Authorities have been requested to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures.
