Karachi, June 4, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather advisory warning of potential damages resulting from thunderstorm and hailstorm activity expected in several regions of the country over the next 24 hours.

The PMD has cautioned that the combination of strong windstorms, thunderstorms, hailstorms, and lightning could affect fragile infrastructure such as electric poles, trees, vehicles, and solar panels.

According to the PMD’s latest synoptic overview, a shallow westerly wave is currently influencing the upper regions of Pakistan. Meanwhile, moist air currents are also entering the northeastern areas, intensifying the likelihood of localized severe weather.

For Wednesday, June 4, the PMD predicts partly cloudy conditions with the possibility of rain accompanied by wind and thunderstorm activity at isolated locations in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, upper Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir. The department further warned of isolated heavy downpours and hailstorm occurrences that may amplify the risk of thunderstorm-related incidents. Additionally, a wind/duststorm is expected to impact parts of southern Punjab.

Looking ahead to Thursday, June 5, the PMD expects hot and dry weather to prevail across most regions of the country. However, isolated areas in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeast Punjab, the Pothohar plateau, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir may again experience partly cloudy conditions with rain, wind, and thunderstorm spells.

During the past 24 hours, several parts of the country witnessed rain and thunderstorm activity. These included scattered regions in upper and central Punjab, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In contrast, hot and dry conditions dominated the southern and western regions, with some plains experiencing extremely high temperatures.

Significant rainfall amounts recorded include 29 mm in Sahiwal, 19 mm in Saidu Sharif, and 13 mm in Rawalakot. Other notable measurements came from Balakot (11 mm), Muzaffarabad Airport (9 mm), and Skardu (5 mm).

The highest maximum temperatures recorded yesterday were 48°C in Sibi, 47°C in Dadu, and 46°C in Turbat.

The PMD strongly advises the public and relevant authorities to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures against the risks posed by thunderstorms and associated hailstorm activity, which may occur multiple times during this forecast period.
