Islamabad, June 2, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a comprehensive weather advisory ahead of Eid-ul-Adha, warning of intense hot and dry weather across the plains, along with scattered duststorms and thunderstorms in northern and upper regions of the country.
According to the PMD, the upcoming Eid holidays will witness very hot and dry conditions in most plain areas, while rain-thunderstorm activity is expected in northern regions from June 2 to June 5, and again from June 7 to June 9.
The PMD stated that moist currents are currently entering the northeastern parts of the country, while a westerly wave is expected to approach the upper regions around June 3. Under the influence of this system, duststorms and thunderstorms, with isolated heavy falls and hailstorms, are likely in several regions.
From the evening of June 2 through June 5, areas such as Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Mansehra, Shangla, Battagram, Kohistan, and Abbottabad are expected to receive rainfall accompanied by strong winds. Similar weather is forecast for Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and multiple districts across Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on June 3 and 4.
Duststorms are also expected to sweep across parts of southern Punjab during the same period. On Eid-ul-Adha, which falls between June 7 and 9, the PMD predicts rain-wind/thunderstorms in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Dir, Swat, Chitral, Mansehra, and Kohistan.
The PMD advisory emphasized the potential hazards of windstorms, dust, and hailstorms, warning that they could damage infrastructure such as power lines, trees, and solar panels. Travelers and tourists heading to the northern areas during Eid are advised to remain cautious and monitor the evolving weather situation.
Farmers are also urged to plan agricultural activities in accordance with the weather forecasts to avoid crop damage. The PMD has requested that all relevant authorities remain on high alert and take proactive measures to ensure public safety during the Eid-ul-Adha holidays.
