The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a new weather advisory, warning of a strong westerly wave that is likely to impact the upper and central regions of the country starting the night of May 7.
According to the PMD, moisture-laden currents will also enter central and southern areas of Pakistan from the same date, increasing the chances of rain and thunderstorm activity in multiple regions over the next several days.
Regional Forecasts:
Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK):
Widespread weather activity including rain, wind, and thunderstorms—accompanied by isolated heavy showers and hailstorms—is expected in Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Kotli, Mirpur, and other areas from May 7 (evening/night) through May 12.
Gilgit-Baltistan:
Cities such as Skardu, Gilgit, Hunza, and Astore will experience rain and thunderstorms from May 8 to May 12.
Punjab and Islamabad:
The PMD forecasts intermittent weather disturbances in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Murree beginning May 7 (night) to May 11. Rain, wind, and isolated hailstorms are expected in numerous cities including Faisalabad, Multan, Sargodha, Bahawalpur, and others from May 8 to May 10.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP):
Heavy rainfall and hailstorms are anticipated in upper districts like Swat, Chitral, and Abbottabad between May 7 and May 12. Southern districts including D.I. Khan, Kohat, and Bannu will likely experience weather activity from May 8 to 10.
Balochistan:
Rain and thunderstorms are forecasted for Quetta, Khuzdar, Sibbi, and surrounding areas between May 7 and 10.
Sindh:
The PMD predicts that cities such as Larkana, Sukkur, and Mirpurkhas will witness weather changes including rain and thunder from May 8 (evening) to May 10.
Warnings and Precautions:
The PMD has cautioned that high winds, dust storms, and lightning could cause damage to infrastructure, including electric poles, vehicles, trees, and solar installations. Farmers are strongly advised to plan their wheat harvesting around the changing weather conditions.
All relevant authorities have been urged to stay alert and take proactive steps to mitigate risks and ensure public safety during this period of unstable weather.
