Islamabad, December 22, 2025 — The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather alert warning of possible road closures and slippery conditions due to snowfall and landslides in several popular tourist destinations across northern Pakistan.
The advisory urges travelers and local authorities to remain cautious, as adverse weather may disrupt traffic and routine activities.
According to the PMD, snowfall and landslides may lead to roadblocks in Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Murree, Galiyat, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch, and Haveli during the day. In addition, moderate to dense fog is expected to persist over the plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh, reducing visibility and increasing the risk of travel delays.
The department stated that a westerly wave is currently affecting the upper regions of the country, influencing the prevailing weather conditions. For Monday, intermittent rain accompanied by gusty winds and snowfall over mountainous areas is forecast for Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and adjoining hilly regions. Meanwhile, cold and dry weather is likely to dominate other parts of Pakistan, with fog continuing in Punjab and upper Sindh.
On Tuesday, weather conditions are expected to remain cold and dry nationwide, while foggy conditions may again persist in the plains during morning and night hours.
During the past 24 hours, cold and partly cloudy weather prevailed across most regions. Dense fog was reported in northeastern districts of Punjab, while rain and snowfall occurred at isolated locations in Kashmir, upper and central Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Notable rainfall was recorded in areas including Garhi Dopatta, Murree, Balakot, Astore, and Malam Jabba, where snowfall of up to two inches was observed.
PMD advised tourists and commuters to stay updated with official forecasts and avoid unnecessary travel to high-altitude areas during adverse weather conditions.
