Islamabad, February 12, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather forecast for Tuesday, February 13, 2024, warning of potential thunderstorms in the coastal areas of Makran.
The advisory comes as part of the PMD’s regular updates on the country’s weather patterns.
According to the PMD’s weather report for Tuesday, most parts of Pakistan can expect mainly cold and dry weather, with upper regions experiencing very cold and cloudy conditions. Southern districts of Balochistan, particularly the coastal areas of Makran, are likely to witness partly cloudy weather with a chance of rain, wind, and thunderstorms. Additionally, isolated places in Kashmir and adjoining hilly areas may experience light rain, wind, and thunderstorms. Shallow fog is also anticipated in some plain areas of northeast Punjab during the morning hours.
Looking back at Monday’s weather on February 12, 2024, most parts of the country experienced cold and dry conditions. Upper regions were very cold and partly cloudy, while Balochistan faced cloudy weather with chances of rain, wind, and thunderstorms in its southwestern parts. Isolated places in Kashmir and adjoining hilly areas also saw light rain, wind, and thunderstorms.
The PMD highlighted the synoptic situation, indicating the presence of a westerly wave over south/southwestern parts of Balochistan, contributing to the expected weather conditions.
Over the past 24 hours, cold and dry weather prevailed over most parts of the country, with northern areas experiencing very cold conditions. Isolated places in south Balochistan, including Jiwani, Gwadar, and Turbat, saw rainfall recorded at 14mm, 02mm, and 01mm, respectively.
The recorded lowest minimum temperatures during this period were as follows (°C): Leh -12, Skardu, Kalam -08, Astore -07, Gupis -06, Gilgit -05, Srinagar, Bagrote, and Hunza -04.
