Islamabad, January 23, 2026 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Friday issued a weather alert warning of widespread rain, windstorms, thunderstorms, and snowfall across various parts of the country from Sunday night (January 25) through Tuesday (January 27).

According to the PMD, a strong westerly weather system is expected to enter western parts of Pakistan on January 25 and intensify over the upper regions by January 26. Under the influence of this system, several provinces are likely to experience wet and cold weather conditions.

The Met Office forecast rain and windstorms with snowfall in many districts of Balochistan, including Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Zhob, Kalat, Khuzdar, Turbat, Gwadar, Panjgur, and surrounding areas on January 25 (night) and 26. Upper Sindh, including Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Dadu, is also expected to receive rainfall on January 26.

Meanwhile, moderate to heavy snowfall is predicted in Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and upper parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Chitral, Swat, Kalam, Dir, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and adjoining districts on January 26 and 27, with occasional breaks.

The PMD warned that heavy snowfall could lead to road closures and slippery conditions in hilly areas such as Naran, Kaghan, Murree, Neelum Valley, Hunza, Skardu, and Quetta. There is also a risk of landslides and avalanches in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir.

Tourists have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and exercise extreme caution during the forecast period. Daytime temperatures are expected to drop significantly, while all concerned authorities have been urged to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures to prevent any untoward incidents.
