PMD warns of widespread rains across Pakistan Oct 4-6

Monsoon Rainfall

Islamabad, October 4, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an alert predicting widespread rains across the country starting from the night of October 4 through October 6.

The weather system, linked to Cyclone “SHAKHTI” over the northeast Arabian Sea and a strong westerly wave, is expected to bring significant rainfall and thunderstorms in several regions.

According to the PMD, heavy rains may cause flash floods in local streams and nullahs of Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Kashmir. Authorities have warned that windstorms, hailstorms, and lightning could also damage weak structures such as kacha houses, rooftops, electric poles, vehicles, solar panels, and billboards.

The PMD has advised the public, travelers, and tourists to avoid unnecessary movement in vulnerable areas during this period and remain updated with the latest advisories.

Weather Outlook

On Saturday, most parts of Pakistan are likely to remain dry, though partly cloudy conditions with isolated showers are expected in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Islamabad, northern Punjab, and coastal areas of Sindh. By Sunday, however, widespread rains accompanied by thunderstorms are forecast for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Islamabad, and coastal Sindh. Isolated heavy downpours and hailstorms may intensify the risk of urban flooding in low-lying areas.

In the past 24 hours, hot and dry weather prevailed across much of Pakistan, though sporadic rainfall was recorded in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Punjab, and Sindh. Peshawar Airport received the highest at 15 mm, followed by Pattan 14 mm, and Parachinar 10 mm.

The PMD cautions that while some areas may benefit from relief against prolonged dryness, the upcoming spell of rains also carries risks, making precautionary measures crucial for both authorities and citizens.
