Karachi, October 17, 2024 – The Port Qasim Authority (PQA) released its daily shipping activity report for Thursday, October 17, 2024, detailing the arrival, departure, and cargo handling activities at the port to facilitate stakeholders.

According to the report, six vessels – APL Qingdao, Maersk Kensington, Haj Muhammad, Akti-A, San Nicolas, and Qing Quan Shan – berthed at various terminals during the last 24 hours. These ships were engaged in the loading and offloading of diverse cargo, including containers, cement, palm oil, and coal. The vessels docked at Qasim International Container Terminal (QICT), Multi-Purpose Terminal, Liquid Cargo Terminal, Marginal Warfage-4, and Pakistan International Bulk Terminal (PIBT), ensuring the steady movement of goods and materials essential for trade and industry.

Eleven ships were actively engaged at the PQA berths in the past 24 hours. Among them, the container ship APL Qingdao departed from the port on Thursday morning, while another container ship, Maersk Kensington, is expected to sail in the afternoon. This consistent turnaround of vessels highlights the port’s efficient operations and its vital role in handling Pakistan’s import and export activities.

Cargo Volume and Handling

Port Qasim handled a total cargo volume of 221,321 tonnes in the past 24 hours, which comprised 169,567 tonnes of imported cargo and 51,754 tonnes of export cargo. The total cargo included various goods such as coal, palm oil, cement, and industrial materials, crucial to both the domestic market and international trade.

The port also processed 7,404 containers during this period, consisting of 5,091 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of imports and 2,313 TEUs of exports, reflecting its significant role in the container shipping sector. This robust cargo activity is crucial for maintaining Pakistan’s supply chains and ensuring the availability of critical goods.

Upcoming Shipping Activities

At the outer anchorage of Port Qasim, twelve ships are waiting for berths. Among them, the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) carrier Chemroad Sea is expected to dock at the Engro Vopak Terminal on Thursday, signaling further cargo handling and operations in the coming hours.
