Islamabad, September 27, 2025 – Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, has welcomed the World Bank’s latest recognition of Port Qasim, which has been ranked the ninth most improved port worldwide.
The minister described the achievement as a reflection of Pakistan’s sustained maritime reforms and modernization efforts.
According to the Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) 2024, prepared in collaboration with S&P Global Market Intelligence, the World Bank placed Port Qasim among the top 20 improving ports across the globe. The index noted a remarkable 35.2-point rise in its performance between 2020 and 2024.
Calling the recognition a “matter of national pride,” Junaid Anwar Chaudhry credited reforms, new technologies, and streamlined port management practices for the success. “The inclusion of Muhammad Bin Qasim Port in this global ranking highlights Pakistan’s commitment to modernize port operations and enhance efficiency to international standards,” he said.
The minister emphasized that ongoing dredging of the channel, regulatory reforms, and investment in digital solutions will further strengthen the capacity of Port Qasim to handle larger vessels and boost trade flows. He also acknowledged the contribution of private operators, especially DP World’s Qasim International Container Terminal (QICT), in ensuring high-quality port operations.
Chairman PQA, Rear Admiral (Retd) Moazzam Ilyas, praised the workforce’s dedication, noting that innovation and infrastructure upgrades will continue to elevate the port’s global standing.
Chaudhry added that with Karachi Port, Gwadar Port, and Port Qasim all undergoing rapid modernization, Pakistan is strategically positioned to become a major logistics hub linking the Middle East, Central Asia, China, and beyond. He stressed that improved port performance will attract foreign investment, support exporters and importers, and strengthen Pakistan’s role in regional trade.
“This milestone is only the beginning,” the minister concluded. “Our vision is to transform Pakistan’s maritime gateways into engines of economic growth and prosperity.”
