Karachi, July 30, 2024 – The Port Qasim Authority (PQA) has released its latest shipping activity report, detailing the movements and cargo handling operations to keep stakeholders informed and operations smooth.
On Monday, four ships – Lotus A, Sweet Judi, Clipper Eris, and Sea Luck-II – docked at various terminals of Port Qasim. The vessels berthed at Qasim International Container Terminal, Multi-Purpose Terminals, FOTCO Oil Terminal, and Engro Vopak Terminal, respectively, to load and offload containers, rice, condensate, and chemicals.
Meanwhile, four additional ships – Sweet Lady-III, Kouros Queen, Canopus, and Elim Grace – arrived at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim over the last 24 hours. This continuous inflow of vessels highlights the port’s robust activity and its critical role in facilitating maritime trade.
During the same period, eight ships were actively engaged at the port’s berths. Of these, four vessels – Milaha Qater, Ocean Pioneer, Xia Hai Tong, and Lotus A – completed their operations and departed the port on Tuesday. The efficient turnaround of these ships underscores the port’s capacity to handle significant cargo volumes promptly.
In total, Port Qasim managed a cargo volume of 66,473 tonnes within the last 24 hours. This included 29,817 tonnes of import cargo and 36,656 tonnes of export cargo. Additionally, the port handled containerized cargo amounting to 292 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units). This substantial throughput reflects the port’s crucial role in supporting Pakistan’s trade and economic activities.
Currently, five ships are at the outer anchorage of the port. Among these, three vessels – Elim Grace, Kouros Queen, and Butinah – along with another ship, Apollon-D, are expected to take berths at LCT, MW-4, PIBT, and QICT, respectively, on Tuesday. These ships are carrying a variety of cargo, including palm oil, coal, and containers.
Looking ahead, three more ships – Maersk Cape Town, Addison, and MSC Roma – carrying containers are due to arrive at Port Qasim on Wednesday. The scheduled arrivals are expected to maintain the momentum of port activities and ensure continuous cargo handling operations.
Port Qasim’s ongoing efforts to streamline operations and maintain high standards of service are evident in the efficient handling of cargo and vessel movements. By keeping stakeholders updated with regular reports, the PQA aims to enhance transparency and coordination, fostering a more efficient maritime trade environment.
The PQA’s proactive approach in managing port activities and addressing logistical challenges underscores its commitment to facilitating international trade and supporting the country’s economic growth. As one of Pakistan’s major ports, Port Qasim plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth flow of goods and commodities, thereby contributing to the nation’s overall economic development.
