Karachi, May 8, 2024 – The Port Qasim Authority (PQA) has issued a comprehensive report detailing the bustling shipping activities for Wednesday, May 8, 2024, offering crucial insights for stakeholders and businesses reliant on one of Pakistan’s major maritime gateways.

The day began with significant activity at the port’s terminals. Three major vessels, the Maersk Yorktown, Wide Alpha, and MH Sandef Jord, successfully berthed at the Container Terminal and Multi-Purpose Terminal, respectively, on Tuesday. These operations highlight the diverse functionality of the port facilities, handling a variety of cargo types efficiently.

Additionally, five other vessels — the Maersk Cape Town, MSC Roma, Capricorn, PH Giang Minh, and Huang Shan-16 — arrived at the outer anchorage over the past 24 hours. These ships are scheduled for loading and offloading operations involving containers, iron ore, and palm oil, emphasizing the port’s role in facilitating critical imports and exports.

Over the last day, Port Qasim was a hive of activity with seven ships docked at its berths. Of these, three ships — Wide Alpha, Maersk Yorktown, and Jessie — departed the port this morning, demonstrating the rapid turnover and operational efficiency at the port. Additionally, two more vessels, Clyde and White Peach, are expected to sail later this afternoon, further streamlining the traffic and operational flow.

In terms of cargo volume, the port handled a substantial total of 100,405 tonnes in the past 24 hours, comprising 55,631 tonnes of imports and 44,774 tonnes of exports. These operations were conducted through the management of 3,694 containers, split between 1,787 TEUs for imports and 1,907 TEUs for exports, underscoring the port’s significant role in the regional trade and economic network.

Presently, six ships are anchored at Port Qasim’s Outer Anchorage. Among these, five — Maersk Cape Town, MSC Roma, Ionic Artemis, PH Giang Minh, and Huang Shan-16 — along with another vessel, Sea Ambition, are lined up for imminent berthing today. They are scheduled to handle a diverse array of cargoes including containers, fuel oil, palm kernel, palm oil, and motor gasoline (mogas), across various terminals such as QICT, FOTCO, MW-I, LCT, and EVTL.
