Port Qasim reports robust shipping activity amid Middle East crisis

Port Qasim Activity

Karachi, March 1, 2026: The Port Qasim Authority (PQA) on Sunday released its daily shipping update, highlighting bustling port operations and increased vessel movement despite escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

According to PQA officials, the daily shipping program is issued at 8:00 AM Pakistan Time (PKT) and covers vessel activity over the previous 24 hours. The latest report indicates a significant rise in shipping traffic, reflecting sustained trade flows and uninterrupted port operations amid regional uncertainty.

Increased Sailing Activity

Several vessels departed Port Qasim carrying a wide range of commodities, including coal, motor gasoline (MOGAS), ethylene, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and petroleum coke (pet coke). Major outgoing cargo volumes underscore the port’s critical role in supporting Pakistan’s energy and industrial supply chains.

Coal shipments, energy imports, and refined fuel exports remained particularly active, demonstrating stable logistical operations and efficient cargo handling. Port officials noted that vessel scheduling and turnaround times remained within operational benchmarks, ensuring minimal disruption to trade.

Heavy Berthing Operations

The berthing schedule showed intense activity across multiple terminals, with vessels docking to unload and load commodities such as containers, liquefied natural gas (LNG), coal, MOGAS, ethylene, and LPG.

Notably, large LNG carriers and container ships berthed at dedicated terminals, reflecting continued import of critical energy supplies and sustained containerized trade. This steady flow is vital to meeting domestic energy demand and supporting Pakistan’s import-export operations.

Vessel Shifting Operations

In addition to arrivals and departures, multiple vessels were shifted between berths to optimize port space utilization and operational efficiency. These movements involved cargo ships carrying palm oil and bunker supplies, ensuring smooth port logistics and minimizing congestion.

Strategic Importance Amid Regional Tensions

Port Qasim officials emphasized that operations remain fully functional despite heightened Middle East tensions, which have raised concerns over potential disruptions in global shipping routes. The authority reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining uninterrupted maritime trade, efficient cargo handling, and strict safety protocols.
