Port Qasim Reports Robust Shipping Activity on February 16, 2024

Karachi, February 16, 2024 – The Port Qasim Authority (PQA) has released its shipping report for Friday, February 16, 2024, showcasing a bustling maritime activity to support and inform stakeholders involved in foreign trade.

On Thursday, four prominent ships – Maersk Cape Town, Sea Span Beacon, MU Dan Song, and Al-Jassasiya – were scheduled for loading and offloading operations involving containers, iron ore, and liquefied natural gas (LNG). These vessels smoothly berthed at the Container Terminal, Multi-Purpose Terminal, and Elengy Terminal, respectively.

In addition, two more ships, Han He and Shimanami, arrived at the outer anchorage of the port during the last 24 hours. Their cargoes include rice and bentonite, contributing to the diverse range of goods passing through the strategic port.

The Port Qasim Authority reported that a total of nine ships were actively engaged at its berths in the past 24 hours. Among them, the edible oil carrier ‘Bow Endeavour’ set sail from the port on Friday morning, while four others – Epic Sunter, Maersk Cape Town, Sea Span Beacon, and Khairpur – are expected to depart in the afternoon today.

The throughput for the last 24 hours reached an impressive 153,077 tonnes, comprising 133,077 tonnes of imported cargo and 20,390 tonnes of exported cargo. Notably, the handling of containerized cargo included 2,730 containers, with 1,740 TEUs for imports and 990 TEUs for exports.

At present, 11 ships are positioned at the Outer Anchorage of Port Qasim. Notably, the container vessel APL Minnesota and another ship, Marine Aman, are anticipated to take berths at QICT and LCT on Friday. The vessels are set to carry containers and palm oil, further diversifying the cargo types passing through the port.

The Port Qasim Authority’s report underscores the port’s crucial role in facilitating international trade and its capability to handle a variety of goods efficiently. The diverse range of vessels and cargoes passing through Port Qasim highlights its significance as a key player in the region’s maritime activities.
