Karachi, October 25, 2024 – The Port Qasim Authority (PQA) issued its daily shipping activity report on Friday, providing stakeholders with an update on vessel movement, berthing schedules, and cargo volumes at Pakistan’s bustling port.
Three ships—Torrente, African Harrier, and Umm Bab—were berthed at Port Qasim on October 25, handling diverse cargo. Torrente docked at the Qasim International Container Terminal to manage container operations, while African Harrier arrived at the Multi-Purpose Terminal to load and offload rice. Meanwhile, Umm Bab docked at the Engro Elengy Terminal to manage its LNG cargo.
In addition to the three vessels already docked, another ship, Karam-14, arrived at the port’s outer anchorage in the morning, awaiting its turn to load and offload cement. The continuous flow of ships illustrates the port’s critical role in Pakistan’s trade and supply chain, accommodating high volumes of imports and exports each day.
In total, nine vessels were actively managed at Port Qasim’s berths over the last 24 hours. Among these, three ships—Torrente, Alea, and Bam Bam—departed the port earlier in the day, having completed their cargo handling. Additionally, two ships, Xin Hai Tong-6 and Mahadah Silver, are scheduled to set sail this afternoon, as the port maintains a steady rhythm of incoming and outgoing vessels.
Port Qasim handled a substantial cargo volume of 156,922 tonnes within the last 24-hour period. This included 121,812 tonnes of imported goods and 35,110 tonnes designated for export. Cargo traffic also involved 2,514 containers, divided into 1,271 TEUs for imports and 1,243 TEUs for exports. The high activity level reflects robust trade movements through Port Qasim, vital for the national economy.
At present, nine ships are anchored at Port Qasim’s outer anchorage, with expectations for additional berthing assignments today. Notably, two ships, Saga and Scarlet Rosella, are prepared to take berth positions, carrying palm oil and canola seed, respectively. Two other ships, Porto Fiscardo and CMA CGM Don Pasquale, loaded with coal and containerized cargo, are also scheduled to dock at LCT, FAP, PIBT, and QICT terminals, respectively. Furthermore, the container vessel One Reliability is expected to arrive on Saturday.
This active vessel rotation and diverse cargo management underscore Port Qasim’s essential role in supporting Pakistan’s trade infrastructure, demonstrating the port’s capacity to handle complex logistics and continuous cargo flows effectively.
