Karachi, February 28, 2026 — The Port Qasim Authority (PQA) has signed a landmark agreement with the National Radio & Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) to install a state-of-the-art Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS), a major step aimed at enhancing maritime safety, security, and surveillance at one of Pakistan’s busiest ports.
The contract represents a significant milestone in PQA’s ongoing modernization and digital transformation drive, introducing advanced navigation and monitoring technologies to strengthen operational control across Port Qasim’s navigational jurisdiction.
Under the agreement, the new VTMS will feature long-range high-definition cameras, upgraded VTMS towers, and cutting-edge radar systems capable of detecting even small vessels at extended distances. The system will also include integrated video and voice recording, along with real-time monitoring of weather conditions and tidal movements, enabling more informed and timely operational decisions.
Maritime officials said the advanced setup will significantly improve situational awareness, navigational safety, and emergency response capabilities, while also ensuring greater compliance with international maritime standards.
In an official statement, PQA said the initiative underscores its commitment to modernization, enhanced vigilance, and responsible management of Pakistan’s vital maritime infrastructure. The upgraded system is expected to transform Port Qasim into a safer, smarter, and more technologically advanced port, aligned with global best practices.
